How does it feel
when a friend betrays you
when they tell you the truth?
How do you take it
when they point out your flaws?
How can you stand it
when they see you
like everyone else?

How do you keep in
all the emotions that you feel
when everyone laughs
or points, or whispers
because you’re not cool
or skinny or perfect?
Why do they care
about what you look like
but not care
about how you feel?

How do you not cry
when they’re mean and cruel
and they want you to crack?
How do you keep
from running away
from feelings that seem to attack?

Why don’t they understand
that you’re not perfect
and you can’t do everything?
Why do they insist
on making you hurt
on causing you pain
when they can’t stand it themselves?
